Guangdong is the largest province in China in terms of economic aggregate and foreign trade. In 2016, the total import and export volume of Guangdong Province with Latin America and the Caribbean was US$33.65 billion, accounting for about one-sixth of the national total.
The Pearl River Delta
The Pearl River Delta, a region in Guangdong Province with the greatest development vitality, has become an important gateway through which China goes global and the world enters China. Nine cities in the Delta join Hong Kong and Macao to form the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, representing the world's third largest metropolitan area next to the New York metropolitan area and the Tokyo metropolitan area.
Zhuhai is located in the core area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is the core city on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary and a transportation hub. As one of the origins of China's "Maritime Silk Road" more than one thousand years ago, Zhuhai pioneers modern China's opening to the outside world. It is one of the four earliest special economic zones in China and has become an important platform for China's comprehensive cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean.
